Fresh off the Press: Read the Latest
The latest from The Citizen’s Poste spans longform features, interviews, and cultural commentary examining fashion and culture as systems: how they’re built, how they operate, and how they shape the present moment. We publish with intention, not urgency. That means fewer pieces, sharper thinking, and writing that assumes an intelligent reader. No trend-chasing, no filler. Start wherever you like. Stay as long as you want. This is fashion and culture for readers who prefer substance, clarity, and a little wit with their rigor.
Which Trends are Taking on 2024 (and Which Ones Aren’t), According to a Data Analyst
If there’s one misconception about the fashion industry that does us harm, it’s that getting professionally involved in style doesn’t require a sharp mind. From the painfully detailed mathematics skills necessary to master garment design, to the art of business and communications that it takes to eloquently go about events and networking, working in the fashion industry and having a genuine understanding of the landscape isn’t for the faint of heart. But what about when it comes to translating the science behind trends and tracking their performance? Well, we asked Molly Rooyakkers, a market research analyst and fashion enthusiast who’s mastered the art of balancing fashion and data analytics, and here’s what she had to say about what’s good in 2024:
Mina Hasan’s The Kismet Reserve is Bringing Watches Back
There’s something special about a good watch- the timeless and elegant feeling that comes with owning an heirloom. But there’s no denying that the search for that perfect signature accessory comes with a caveat: it’s no small task to acquire, especially when it comes to the vintage market. From dealing with market competition, fakes, broken items, and outrageous price tags, the cost that comes with sourcing vintage watches is greater than that of money. But lucky for us, Boston-based Mina Hasan has it all figured out.
From the Pros: Abby Quinn on the Business of Vintage
There's no closet as coveted as that of a pro vintage stylist. From sourcing pieces to properly integrating them into your wardrobe, the task of building a beautiful secondhand collection can seem impossible. Not to mention needing an eye for the best textiles, brands, and aesthetics. Thankfully, that's where stylist and vintage curator Abby Quinn comes into play. "I would go to the thrift store with my mom, and we'd be there for hours, just looking through every little rack," Abby mused during her interview with The Citizen's Poste. "And I guess subconsciously, it all rubbed off on me." Soon enough, her love for vintage style and a need for a means to fund her passion became a full-blown resale business: Star Girl Supply.
