Pia Mance is Bringing Fragrance to The Accessories World with OUAI

"At Heaven, we’ve always loved pushing the boundaries of what a product can be by bringing aesthetics and functionality together, much like we did with our book boxes. So, this collaboration felt very fitting, 'a match made in Heaven' if you will."

Pia Mance is Bringing Fragrance to The Accessories World with OUAI

Heaven Mayhem has a knack for making brand-new jewelry look like it has a past. Under founder Pia Mance, the LA label’s chunky, vintage-inspired hardware has become a fixture on the lobes and necklines of the internet’s most-tagged trendsetters, every piece carrying the charm of a prized flea-market find. Now, Mance is stepping outside the jewelry box and into the vanity.

Heaven Mayhem has teamed up with OUAI on the Amulet Necklace, a heavy, refillable gold pendant that unscrews to hold two of the brand’s cult fragrances: the Parisian-inspired Rue St. Honoré and the sun-drenched Ibiza. It’s fragrance as a literal accessory, worn rather than spritzed and forgotten, and a modern spin on the pomanders and scent lockets of centuries past. It also might be the most accurate snapshot yet of how fashion and beauty are colliding in 2026.

Ahead of the launch (available from today on heavenmayhem.com and theouai.com), I interviewed Mance to talk about why, in a category as vast as beauty, they chose to start with fragrance; how two LA brands ended up bottling Paris and Ibiza; what it was like to build the collaboration with OUAI; and how Heaven Mayhem is growing from a jewelry brand into a broader world of accessories.

Before we get into the Amulet—what are you wearing right now? Are you loyal to one scent, or do you cheat?

I’ve been switching between Rose Carnivora by Dries Van Noten and Ouai’s Ibiza body mist. I tend to gravitate towards floral and vanilla notes, so I’ve been loving mixing the two!

Beauty is a massive category. What made fragrance the way in for Heaven Mayhem?

OUAI actually approached us with the idea! They came to us with the concept of “wearable fragrance,” which felt like the perfect merging of both worlds. That’s how the Amulet necklace came to life. At Heaven, we’ve always loved pushing the boundaries of what a product can be by bringing aesthetics and functionality together, much like we did with our book boxes. So, this collaboration felt very fitting, “a match made in Heaven” if you will.

Does working in beauty feel like learning a whole new language compared to accessories?

Yes and no. Our minds were definitely opened up when we got to learn how the team at OUAI operated but both our brands are very detail focused so there were definitely similarities which made working together very seamless. Both brands have a lot of respect for each other so we really let each other own our individual crafts, which meant we didn’t have to entirely learn the ‘beauty language’ ourselves.

Heaven Mayhem and OUAI are both LA brands at heart. How much of the city made it into the Amulet—and was that part of why the collab came to be?

A lot of the collab was actually inspired by OUAI’s two hero fragrances, Ibiza and Rue Saint-Honoré. Each necklace comes with its own scent, so we wanted to build on that idea and bring the two fragrances to life through the visuals, the event, and the overall storytelling.

You’ll see little elements throughout the photoshoot, from the styling to the props, that bring you to these two places. We’re carrying that through to the event too, with food and cocktails inspired by each destination. For me, that’s what fragrance is all about, it’s a feeling, a memory, and a way to transport yourself somewhere else, even just for a moment.

The event will be hosted at Seventh House in LA, which feels really fitting since both brands are LA-based. I’m so excited to bring both of our communities together and celebrate this collaboration with the people who have been so supportive of us from the very beginning.

Speaking of LA, where are we finding you on a Sunday?

Malibu! By the beach with my family.

Heaven Mayhem is so clearly you. How do you keep it feeling that personal when you're inviting another brand's world in?

The whole process felt really collaborative. I think a lot of the time, when brands approach us for collaborations, they’re looking to bring a little bit of Heaven into their world, whether that’s through the visuals, the event, or the overall look and feel. So it’s always about going back and forth, sharing ideas, and finding that middle ground that feels right for both brands.

I think we’ve been really lucky with this collaboration because it’s felt like such a genuine team effort. Everyone’s been so open, flexible, and excited to make something amazing together, and I think that really comes through in the end result.

So much of the brand started with vintage pieces that already had a past life. Do you see the Amulet becoming the kind of thing people keep long after the launch?

For sure! I think that’s what makes the Amulet so special. It’s not just a piece of jewellery, it’s something you can make your own over time. I love the idea of it becoming something people hold onto, almost like a vintage piece, where it takes on its own story and meaning over time.

Walk me through how a new piece starts for you. Is it still the same process from the bedroom-floor days, or has it grown up with the brand?

I’d say the process has definitely become a bit more structured as we’ve grown, because there’s now a whole team and process behind it.

I still spend a lot of time gathering inspiration in my everyday life, and then I start translating those ideas into something tangible through sketches, designs, and even AI mock-ups before sharing them with the team.

I’ve also learned to bring my team into the design process more and give them a bigger voice in the decisions. But at the end of the day, the creative direction still comes from me. It’s just about finding that balance between keeping the brand true to my vision while letting the team contribute their own perspectives.

You’ve gone from handmade necklaces to belts, watches, and sunglasses. How do you know when the brand is ready for something new?

I’ve always said that I want Heaven to be the go-to accessories brand, so anything within that category that I personally love and use is something I’d want to explore creating. I feel like the inspiration is endless and the possibilities are pretty limitless, so we’re always experimenting with new things, seeing what excites us, and figuring out what resonates with our community. I never want to feel limited to just one thing and I always love coming up with an out of the box idea that still finds its way into the accessories category.

Is there one rule you run the business by that you've never broken?

Done is better than perfect.

And the best advice you've ever ignored?

Trust your gut instincts.

Last one: when you want to feel most like yourself, which scent do you reach for?

Today, it’s Rue St. Honoré by OUAI.
